Why your TikTok views are low, and how to fix it
Most "shadowban" cases are not shadowbans. Here is what is really happening.

First: you are probably not shadowbanned
When views collapse, the first explanation people reach for is a shadowban. It exists, but it is rarer than the internet suggests, and it usually follows an actual violation — reposted content, a flagged sound, a reported video.
The far more common cause is boring: the last few videos did not hold attention, so TikTok stopped pushing them, and now it is being cautious with the new ones. That is not a penalty. It is the system doing exactly what it always does.
A quick test: post something genuinely different from your recent videos — different hook, different length, different format. If it gets normal reach, nothing was ever blocked.
The real causes, in order of how often they are the problem
- Weak first two seconds. Most people scroll before your idea arrives. This is by far the most common cause.
- Video is too long for the payoff. Retention percentage drops and the video stops travelling.
- Reposted or watermarked content. TikTok actively suppresses videos with another platform's watermark. Downloading your own TikTok to repost is one of the most common self-inflicted wounds.
- Posting the same thing repeatedly. Reach declines as the same audience stops responding.
- Copyrighted or restricted sound. The video quietly gets limited distribution.
- Account genuinely restricted. Real, but last on this list for a reason.
How to read your own analytics
Open a video and look at average watch time as a percentage of length, not total views. Above roughly 50% is healthy for a short video. If you are at 20%, the problem is the opening, not the algorithm.
Also check the traffic source. If most views come from "Following" rather than "For You", the video never left your existing audience — that is the signal that it stalled early.
Fixes that actually change the number
- Rewrite the first line so it states the payoff immediately. "Three things I got wrong about X" beats "so today I want to talk about X".
- Cut 30% of the length. Almost every video is too long.
- Never post with another app's watermark. Export from your editor, not from the other platform.
- Stop deleting and reposting the same video. That pattern looks like spam and rarely works.
- Give it a week of consistent posting before concluding anything. Single-video data is noise.
Where bought views fit
Views are the cheapest metric to buy and the one with the least downside — they do not follow you, they do not need to engage later, and a view count that is not absurdly out of line with your other numbers is unremarkable to anyone looking.
What they do not do is fix reach. Bought views arrive from outside the recommendation system; they do not teach TikTok that your video is worth showing to more people. If your organic reach is broken, buying views hides the symptom without treating anything.
The case where they genuinely help is social proof on a video you are linking to from somewhere else — an ad, a bio link, a WhatsApp broadcast. A video with 340 views and one with 34,000 get read very differently by someone arriving cold.
If you want views for social proof
TikTok views are the cheapest thing on our panel — a few sen per thousand, in ringgit. Read the section above first: they are useful for credibility, not for fixing reach.
Questions people ask
My views dropped suddenly from thousands to hundreds. Why?
Usually because one or two videos underperformed and the system got conservative. It recovers when a video performs again. If it persists for weeks across genuinely different content, check for a violation notice in your account settings.
Does posting at a specific time help?
Marginally, and less than the content itself. TikTok keeps showing a video for days if it performs, so the exact posting hour matters far less than on platforms with strictly chronological feeds.
Will deleting the low-performing videos restore my reach?
No. There is no account-level average being dragged down. Deleting only removes content that might have picked up later.
Do bought views hurt my account?
They do not improve organic reach, and a wildly implausible ratio — 100,000 views and 5 likes — looks obviously bought to viewers. Keep the proportions believable and treat them as signage, not growth.
